Last updated date: 10/28/2026

Open Enrollment for your 2027 benefits is Tuesday, November 3 – Monday, November 16. This is your annual opportunity to review your needs and select the benefits that provide the best coverage and value for you and your family.

Overview

Open Enrollment for your 2027 benefits is Tuesday, November 3 – Monday, November 16. This is your one-time annual chance to newly elect or change your Starr benefits for the upcoming year. Don’t miss out!

Enroll through Workday 11/03-11/16!

You must re-enroll in your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to activate your contributions for the 2027 plan year.

Carefully review this site to familiarize yourself with your options so you’re prepared to choose — and use — the benefits that meet you and your family’s needs and lifestyle for 2027.

Eligibility

The Starr Benefits Program is available to all regular, active employees scheduled to work at least 28 hours per week. In addition to enrolling yourself, you may enroll your eligible dependents for medical, dental, vision and dependent life insurance. Certain voluntary benefits are also available to you and your eligible dependents. You can find details on your coverage throughout this site.

If your spouse/domestic partner is eligible for medical coverage under their employer-provided plan, and you elect to cover them under the Starr medical plan, your premium will be increased by $100 per month and deducted from your pay on a post-tax basis. The surcharge will be waived if your spouse/domestic partner is one of the following:

  • A Starr employee
  • Unemployed
  • Self-employed
  • Not eligible for medical coverage from their employer
  • Retired

Note: If you elect medical coverage at the employee only or employee + children level, you still must complete the spousal certification by selecting “No, I’m not covering a spouse.”

What's Changing for 2027

Healthcare and prescription costs are rising nationwide with double-digit increases. At Starr, we worked to bring those down while continuing to offer comprehensive medical coverage. Even with that work, medical premiums will still increase for 2027 across both Aetna and Kaiser medical plans. These increases will hit every coverage level. That said, Starr continues to cover the overall majority of the cost.

Medical plan premiums:

  • Healthcare and prescription costs are rising nationwide. With so many factors impacting cost, Starr works to limit those increases. However, for 2027, all Starr medical plan options will see an increase in premiums.

Medical plan options:

  • Aetna Consumer-Directed Health Plan (CDHP) continues to be a best in class offering. The CDHP provides higher deductible coverage at lower premiums. In-network preventive care is always covered at 100% (without needing to meet the deductible) and 20% coinsurance for most non-preventive care after the deductible is met. The Aetna CDHP also gives you access to a tax-free Health Savings Account (HSA) that helps you save money and plan for future medical expenses. Starr will once again contribute to your HSA: up to $500 for employee-only coverage or up to $1,000 if you cover dependents.
  • Employees currently enrolled in the Aetna Managed Choice POS may remain in the plan and make needed coverage changes for 2027. The POS plan is otherwise closed to new enrollments.
  • Employees in Los Angeles and San Francisco, California, as well as employees throughout Georgia will continue to have the additional medical plan option to elect the Kaiser HMO.

Starr is excited to provide new, low-cost ways to improve your benefits experience: $0 virtual care and expanded benefits to provide additional support for women’s health.

New! $0 Virtual General Medical Care through Teladoc:

  • In 2027, a general medicine virtual care visit will cost $0 when you seek care under Teladoc! For most everyday medical concerns, virtual care is the fastest way to see a provider, often with appointments available the same day. When you need quick, convenient care, consider making virtual care your first step.

New! $0 Virtual Digestive Health through Oshi Health:

  • One in three adults needs to see a specialist for digestive problems each year, but the average wait for a new gastroenterology appointment is nearly two months. Oshi Health can connect you with a full digestive care team virtually, in-network through Aetna, so you can be seen on your schedule.

Additional Women’s Health support:

  • Starr is expanding Progyny’s services for 2027! Along with fertility support, will now include pregnancy, postpartum, and menopause care. Now you can reach a trained physician whenever a question comes up, not only at a scheduled appointment.

Hinge Health now provides Migraine care:

  • Starting October 1st, employees can seek Migraine care through Hinge Health. Fast, drug-free pain relief, Hinge Health now offers access to FDA-cleared “Enso”, delivering rapid, drug-free pain relief.

Enhanced Voluntary Benefits:

  • MetLife has enhanced the benefits for Accident and Hospital Indemnity Insurance. Accident Insurance reimbursements are increasing for certain follow up care services. Hospital Indemnity Insurance reimbursements are increasing for general hospital and ICU admissions.

Aetna POS copay increases:

  • After keeping copays flat for many years, the Aetna Managed Choice POS copays will be increasing to $25 for primary care visits and $50 for specialist visits

New CVS Caremark formulary:

  • Starting in 2027, Starr will use the CVS Caremark Advanced Control Formulary, providing clinically effective, lowest-cost therapy. Most employees will see no change, but if your prescribed medication is affected, there will be a covered alternative.

Review

To bring your benefits to life, you first need to fully understand them. Consider all of your benefit options for 2027, and then think about your needs:

  • Review this Open Enrollment page for any changes coming for next year.
  • Read about your benefits on this site to make an informed decision about your 2027 benefits elections.
  • Attend an Open Enrollment meeting.

Compare

Use Open Enrollment as an opportunity to take a fresh look at your needs and benefits options before deciding on coverage for 2027. Compare your options carefully and choose the ones that meet your health care needs:

  • Review the side-by-side comparisons and decision tips in the Health section.
  • Use the Medical Plan Cost Estimator to compare costs and coverage of various medical plans. The calculator factors in the care you expect to need in 2027, plus your Spending and Savings Accounts, if applicable.

Enroll

Enrolling is easy! Make sure to enroll between November 3 and November 16:

  • Sign in to your Workday account from any Internet-enabled device and click the inbox icon in the upper right corner of your screen. Then select the “Open Enrollment” task to get started!
  • If you do not enroll by November 16, you will not be able to contribute to a Health Savings Account (HSA), a Health Care Flexible Spending Account (HCFSA) or a Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (DCFSA) in 2027. Most of your active 2026 benefits will roll over into 2027, at 2027 contribution rates. You must elect to continue your participation in the HSA plan to receive Starr’s contribution. If you have a balance in your HSA, you may continue using remaining funds to pay eligible expenses.
    • Note: Starr’s company contribution will be made as a lump sum deposit to your HSA account in February 2027 ($500 for employee only coverage or $1,000 for all other coverage levels).
  • For 2027, the maximum IRS-allowed total annual contribution for HSA accounts is $4,500 for employee-only coverage and $9,000 for all other coverage levels. Plus, if you are 55 or older you can add an additional $1,000 in catch-up contributions.
  • For 2027, the Dependent Care FSAs maximum IRS-allowed total annual contribution will be $7,500.
  • For 2027, the IRS monthly maximum for the Commuter Expense Reimbursement Account (CERA) program will be $350 (projected) for Parking Expenses and $350 (projected) for Transit (bus, train, subway, or ferry).
  • Be sure to review, edit, add or update Life Insurance beneficiary information.
  • Be sure your dependent information is correct and up to date.
  • As part of the enrollment process, if you elect any medical coverage, you must complete the spousal certification process in Workday. You are not able to complete your enrollment without this certification. Please check your partner’s eligibility carefully before enrolling him or her in Starr coverage. Starr reserves the right to conduct a dependent audit to verify your certification. If you elect medical coverage at the employee only or employee + children level, you still must “elect” the spousal surcharge. Once elected in Workday, you should select “No, I’m not covering a spouse.”

Do I need to enroll?

You must take action if you want to contribute to the Health Savings Account (HSA), Healthcare FSA (HCFSA), and/or Dependent Care FSA (DCFSA) in 2027. If you don’t enroll, your current benefit elections will continue next year, with the exception of FSAs and HSA contributions.

Don’t miss out

After Open Enrollment ends, you can’t change your benefit elections unless you experience a qualifying life event.

Medical Plan Cost Estimator

Make an Informed Choice with the Medical Plan Cost Estimator (MPCE)

Use this easy-to-use online decision-support tool to help you choose the medical plan option that best meets your needs. Just enter a few personal facts about yourself and the medical services you expect to use in the coming year. Then the tool will help you:

  • Compare your estimated annual premiums and out-of-pocket costs under all Starr medical plan options.
  • See how contributions to a tax-free health account such as the HSA (with the CDHP) or the FSA (with the Aetna Managed Choice POS plan or, in some zip codes of CA and GA, the Kaiser HMO), can benefit you and offset your medical expenses.

Use the “Guided Tour” experience to complete your comparison in a few easy steps or the “Do It Yourself” experience to create more detailed and personalized cost estimates.

The MPCE is completely confidential; none of the information you enter or results you receive are stored on the tool, and they cannot be accessed by Starr. For this reason, you cannot save information on the tool. If you wish to keep the results you’ve modeled, be sure to print them out for future reference.

To use the MPCE, go to the Medical Plan Cost Estimator and follow the simple instructions to begin comparing.
